Meet Frank
Procopio
A
Brief History of Mr. Procopio and Academy of Chess, LLC
Frank Procopio is a certified chess
coach and principal instructor of the Academy of Chess LLC. I graduated
from Christian Brothers Academy in Fayetteville, N.Y. and received
a degree in economics from King's College.
I originally taught high school for four years after college. I
then left teaching for the business world. I had an 11-year career
with Jewelcor. After that I worked with a financial services company
as a municipal pension administrator. However, I always felt I was
a teacher at heart and in 2011, I received my teacher's certification
in general science and social studies, history and Economics.
The Idea for Academy of Chess, LLC goes back to around 1988. My
wife, Lucille, was teaching at St. Joseph's school in Hudson. She
called me one day to teach chess to a seventh-grade class. There
was great reception to it and I taught the game until the school
closed in 1995. During that time I became a certified chess coach
with US Chess, in 1990. My wife then taught at St. Peter & Paul's
in Plains Township and I continued to teach the strategies of chess
for the next decade there.
Academy of Chess LLC began in 2011. It was open to students in both
private and public schools in the entire county. It has evolved
into a great platform for kids in grades 2 through 8 to learn strategy
and gain self-confidence.
Beginning This year, 2021, Academy of Chess will focus on providing
private chess lessons via Zoom to any beginner, novice or pre-tournament
student.
